Product Overview

Ceramic Fiber Paper is a lightweight, high-temperature resistant refractory material manufactured from high-purity alumina-silica ceramic fibers. Through a wet-forming process similar to papermaking, these fibers are blended with organic binders and then formed into uniform, flexible sheets. The organic binders burn off during initial heating, leaving a pure, inorganic fiber structure.

  • High Temperature Stability: Continuous service temperature typically ranges from 2300°F to 2732°F (1260°C to 1500°C), depending on the grade (standard, high-purity, or zirconia-reinforced).
  • Low Thermal Conductivity: Exceptional insulating capability reduces heat loss and saves energy.
  • Low Thermal Mass & Heat Storage: Its thin, low-density structure heats and cools rapidly, enabling faster thermal cycles.
  • Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance: Resists spalling and cracking even under sudden, extreme temperature changes.
  • Chemical Stability: Resistant to most corrosive agents (except hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, and strong alkalis). Does not wet with molten aluminum.
  • Mechanical Flexibility: Easy to cut, wrap, fold, or die-cut into complex shapes.
  • Low Shrinkage: Maintains dimensional stability under high heat.
  • Electrical Insulation: Provides good dielectric strength at elevated temperatures.
  • Non-Wetting to Molten Metals: Particularly suitable for aluminum casting applications.
Manufacturing Process
  1. Fiber Production: Alumina and silica are melted in an electric furnace at over 2000°C and spun into fibers.
  2. Slurry Formation: Fibers are dispersed in water with organic binders and additives.
  3. Sheet Forming: The slurry is deposited on a moving screen to drain water and form a wet mat.
  4. Pressing and Drying: The mat is pressed to control density and thickness, then dried to remove remaining moisture.
  5. Slitting and Packaging: The finished paper is slit into rolls or sheets.

  • Gaskets and Seals: Used in furnaces, ovens, boilers, and kilns to seal joints and doors.
  • Backup Insulation: Placed behind refractory linings (brick or castable) in high-temperature equipment.
  • Heat Shields: Protects sensitive components from radiant heat in appliances and industrial equipment.
  • Expansion Joints: Acts as a compressible filler in refractory constructions.
  • Casting Filters: For non-ferrous metals (aluminum and magnesium).
  • Fireplace Inserts & Stoves: Improves efficiency and safety.
  • Crisper and Lining in Glass and Ceramic Kilns
  • Automotive Components: Insulation in catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters, and exhaust systems.
  • Laboratory Furnaces: As a removable lining or sample cushion.
