The raw materials are mixed, placed in molds, and heated in a kiln to approximately 900–1000°C (1650–1830°F). At this temperature, a chemical reaction releases gases (such as carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide), creating millions of tiny, sealed, independent glass bubbles. Once cooled, the mixture solidifies into a rigid board or block that is 100% inorganic and non-combustible.
