Product Description

Insulation Felt for High-Temperature Industrial Pipes

Aerogel felt is a flexible, high-performance composite material that combines the exceptional thermal insulation properties of silica aerogel with the mechanical strength and flexibility of fiber-reinforcing materials, such as glass fiber. By integrating nanoporous aerogel into a fiber matrix, the material overcomes the inherent brittleness of pure aerogel, resulting in a felt-like product that is durable, lightweight, and easy to process and handle.

Technical Specifications

Category Key Performance Characteristics
Thermal Conductivity 0.016 – 0.023 W/(m·K)  At room temperature (around 25°C)
Operating Temperature -200°C to +650°C  Some variants can withstand up to 1200°C.
Density 160 – 240 kg/m³  Varies with thickness and fiber content.
Hydrophobicity

≥ 99% (Water Contact Angle > 130°)  Excellent water repellency.

Why Choose Our Products?

  • Lightweight and durable: With a density of approximately 160–240 kg/m³, it adds negligible weight to the equipment. Furthermore, it offers excellent durability—typically boasting a service life of over 20 years—and resists UV-induced degradation and high-temperature sintering.
  • Hydrophobicity and Fire Resistance: It is inherently hydrophobic, repelling water and preventing moisture ingress (crucial for preventing corrosion under insulation). It is also non-combustible, typically achieving an A1 fireproof rating
  • Flexibility and Mechanical Strength: Unlike pure aerogel, which is brittle, the fiber reinforcement gives the felt excellent flexibility, tensile strength (up to 2.3 MPa), and compression resistance, making it easy to cut, sew, and install around complex shapes

Primary Applications

  • Building and Construction: Used as a high-performance thermal barrier for exterior walls, roofs, and fireproofing for steel structures, contributing to energy efficiency and fire safety
  • Industrial and Energy Sector: For thermal insulation of pipelines, storage tanks, and equipment in petrochemical, oil & gas, and power generation facilities. It is especially effective in LNG (cryogenic) applications
  • Advanced Clothing: Its flexibility and exceptional insulation efficiency (only one-third the thickness of down for the same warmth) make it ideal for high-performance outdoor and protective clothing

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: How does it compare to traditional insulation?

A: It offers 2-5 times better thermal insulation. To achieve the same performance, the required thickness is only one-third to one-fifth of traditional materials, saving space and reducing heat loss.

Q2: Is it hydrophobic and fire-resistant?

A: Yes, it is inherently hydrophobic, meaning it repels water and prevents moisture ingress. It also boasts excellent fire resistance, typically achieving an A1 fireproof rating, and can withstand high temperatures.

Q3:  Is it easy to handle and install?

A: Yes. The felt is soft, flexible, and lightweight, making it easy to cut and sew on-site to fit complex shapes and curved equipment. This facilitates quick installation and reduces labor costs.
