Plastic Castable is a versatile, moldable refractory material primarily formulated using high-grade aggregates such as bauxite, mullite, or corundum, bonded with a phosphate-based system. Its most critical performance feature is its unsurpassed resistance to chemical corrosion, enabling reliable service in contact with a wide spectrum of acidic, neutral, and basic slags. This makes it an indispensable lining solution for highly corrosive environments found in metal furnaces, incinerators, and slag-handling areas.
A defining characteristic of its installation is flexibility. Typically, the binder is liquid aluminium dihydrogen phosphate, which is mixed with the dry aggregates on-site. This allows for the plasticity to be precisely adjusted during application to suit specific contours and complex shapes. Notably, due to its inherent cohesive and thixotropic nature, it does not require traditional formwork during installation when anchors are in place—the material can be directly rammed or gunned into position. The exception is for flat arch constructions, where temporary support is necessary until the material sets.
We supply plastic castable in various formats to suit operational needs: the conventional dry mix with a separate liquid binder, a pre-formulated version with a powder binder (activated by adding only water), and ready-to-use plastic castable that arrives pre-moistened for immediate application. This range ensures optimal convenience, consistency, and performance for diverse industrial maintenance and repair projects.
